Country Flower Bin

Garden this morning at 9:00 a.m. 4-26-12. I wanted to show you what the garden looks like after a winters nap. The Spring flowers were all early this year and they are now done blooming.

A garden has it's down times and I want to share it with you. I have to trim the boxwood because the early warm weather made the boxwood start shooting new growth. Then the cold snap got hold of the new growth. I will simply take the hedge trimmers and go over it shortly.

As you can see I have alot of boxwood to trim. I do not know whose idea it was to plant so much.

The dandelions have done well this Spring. I hate to spray and they do not last that long and the bunnies like them.

There are a few flowers that the cold snap have slowed down, but they will come out of it. I f they look to bad I will just cut them off at the ground and they can start all over again.

Have not cleaned anything up yet so have quite a bit of work to do. I wanted you to see it before I started.

My husband made this out of barrel rings. We like to use old things to spruce up the garden. They usually belonged to a family member which makes it even better. The memories are always there.

This shed was built by my husbands grandfather and use to be a chicken house.

Boogie has been following me around all morning and I think he is wondering what I am doing.

This is golden Thyme. I have quite a few different types of Thyme. It is a great ground cover and just keeps coming back year after year. I will be cutting the Spring flowers back that are in it shortly. I like to let them grow awhile after they bloom. That way the bulbs have a chance to grow for the following year.

It was cloudy and sort of foggy this morning. I have to decide what color theme I am going to go with this year for my annuals. I always like to put in a few so the garden will always have some color. This bed has pinks in it when they start to bloom. The Fairy Rose and pink lilies.

This bed looks so sad right now, but just wait. It is full of lilies,feverfew, spring flowers, roses, new dawn white, lavender, clematis, and a few other pop ups that will always be a surprise.

As you can see I love putting trees in pots. They winter over here in Ohio just fine. This is where I have lavender, boxwood, and rosemary planted in gravel. This use to be a driveway. They have done great because they love good drainage. This proves that you do not always need then best soil to grow something. O.K. it amazed me too. This is the very first year I have ever had rosemary come back, but we had a very mild winter. So that was a huge treat.

This bed has lavender in and it is leading up to the shop.

This is the new Rosemary that I planted this year.

The trellis has my favorite rose on it. Zephirine Drouhin It is a dark pink bloom with no stickers, which is great for an entry way. It has the sweetest rose smell ever.

I will share pictures when it starts blooming.

As you can see I even like putting trees in barrels.

This planter is made out of tobacco lath. They are the sticks that we use to hang tobacco on in the shed to dry.

O.K. here is that Rosemary that has returned.

Climbing Hydrangea

This fountain is made out of field tile and chipped up clay pots. The tile on top is really old. Sometimes all it take is looking around to see what you have on hand to come up with something different.

Golden Thyme

Lavender plant with new clematis popping up right in the center. Have to find a new home for him.

Rosemary even has a bloom on it. I never get it to bloom until late fall.

So cool.

This picture is out my back door. This bed is filled with quite a few different flowers. I will show you when they start blooming.

White Lilac

This rose is CL Morning Magic and if you want a rose that takes care of itself then this is it. Beautiful light pink blooms and smells like a rose should. I need to find one for the other side this year.

This rose was given to me by a customer and it had belonged to her Mother. I do not know the name, but another customer said it was seven sisters. The bloom is a dark pink. It really does not have much smell.
